We had a blast Racing For The Border with Agents from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency last year and we are excited about doing it bigger and better this time around!  The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is doing an outstanding job revitalizing the gem that is Belle Isle and we want to do our part to encourage athletes to get there to check it out.

The Race for the Border offers Sprint and Super Sprint triathlons as well as a Sprint Distance Duathlon.  The swim is fast and goes with the current almost the entire distance.  The bike course takes athletes around the perimeter of the island and has outstanding views.  With cool event shirts, great finisher medals, and an awesome finish line presentation, Belle Isle’s Race for the Border should be on the list of must-do events for both veteran athletes and those new to the sport!

And this time we’ll be prepared for the challenge imposed on athletes by Naval Recruits with their pull-up bar!

Course Information:

Come check out what the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Michigan State Police have done to help restore Belle Isle!

The day will kick off with a FAST Sprint Triathlon swim at 8:00am that goes with the current of the Detroit River. Both Sprint and Super Sprint triathletes will swim a nearly straight-line course, following the green buoys before returning to T1. Super Sprint triathletes will start after the Sprint athletes halfway down the beach.

After completing T1, triathletes will cycle a counterclockwise loop around Belle Isle. Sprint triathletes will complete 2 loops. Super Sprint triathletes will complete 1 loop.

After transitioning through T2, triathletes will complete an out and back run. Sprint triathletes will complete the out and back twice, while Super Sprint triathletes will complete the out and back course once.

Sprint duathletes will follow the same run and bike course as the Sprint triathletes.
