Atlanta, GA: -- Registration is open for participation in the April 30 Spartan Sprint Race at Georgia International Horse Park at Centennial Olympic Parkway Northeast, Conyers.

The Spartan Race, the leading obstacle racing event, is designed to test participants resilience, strength, stamina, and ability to laugh in the face of adversity.

The unique obstacle course will demand every ounce of strength, ingenuity, and animal instinct you thought you lost 3 generations ago.

Course details are held in secrecy until competitors meet them face to face.

Who is a Spartan Race competitor? Everyone, really men, woman, students and seniors.

The Spartan Races are designed for all participants, beginners to hardcore warriors and marathon runners alike, to have fun and cross the finish line. You need a little physical conditioning and a taste for some adventure.

This is the eleventh obstacle racing event in the international Spartan Race Series that began in Burlington, VT in 2010.

The series is the brain-child of uber-sports impresario Joe Desena of Pittsfield, VT, who is legendary for the annual Death Race in Pittsfield. Spartan Race Series winners earn a spot in the 2011 Pittsfield event.

A portion of all money raised in the Spartan Race Series will go to building a home through Homes For Our Troops, a national non-profit that assists severely injured Servicemen and Servicewomen and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor and to coordinate the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.

This is not an extreme sporting event that will scare people away. Its about the fun, getting dirty, getting down in the mud, and its something exciting and new, said Duncanson.

Spartan Race is the leading global obstacle racing series and the only race series that can lift anyone off of their couch and provide them the experience to thrive when facing any mental or physical challenge. Spartan obstacle races have pushed our participants to their fun and physical limits, the state where they learn what they are really made of while grinning ear to ear (total fun!). The Spartan Obstacle Race Series has included the SPRINT (apx 3 miles with +10 obstacles), the SUPER (apx 8 miles with +15 obstacles) and the Spartan DEATH RACE(totally unexpected, and the totally insane!).

$100,000 goes to the Spartan who can win the entire 2011 Spartan Race (domestic US) series that began in Southern California in February. For details please see www.spartanrace.com.

Course Information:

The race features obstacles like 4' hurdles, 8' wall, 12' slippery ramp, cargo net climb, barbed wire crawl, water cannon, traverse wall and fire jump.

It also has Spartan inspired elements like a spear throw and gladiator pit.

Other Info:

Proceeds of the race go to Homes for our Troops, a charity dedicated to providing specialty homes for veterans who have been severely injured. Each participant will receive a Spartan Race t-shirt and medal.

There will be a post-race party, awards ceremony and a kid's race, as well as many other activities guaranteed to be fun for the entire family!
