The Salt Fork region is dubbed the "Crossroads of America" — nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains along I-70 and I-77. Salt Fork Lodge & Conference Center is tucked away in the rolling hills of southeastern Ohio just a short drive from Cambridge, in Ohio's largest state park. The lush wooded surroundings boast miles of recreational trails, wildlife, and impressive views of the sparkling lake.

HFP Racing and Salt Fork Lodge & Conference Center invite you to Ohio's season closing long course triathlon — The Appalachian Foothills Triathlon. This exciting course serves as the final event of the American Triple-T Ohio event, giving you an opportunity to compete alongside Triple-T participants as they battle for top honors. Salt Fork State Park is nestled in the Appalachian Hills of southeastern Ohio. The Appalachian Foothills Triathlon will challenge all ability levels as you take on this challenging bike and run course.

Course Information:

The Appalachian Foothills Triathlon starts off with a two-lap 1.95km (1.2mi) swim on a counter clockwise rectangle swim course along the shoreline of Salt Fork Lake. Next up is very challenging 90km (56mi) bike course with nearly 5000 feet of total climbing, a course that will challenge ALL ability levels. After finishing the bike course participants will again head out on to the Shadbush trail for two laps to tackle the 22km run course!

Course Descriptions

BIKE: Exit transition and follow Park Road 18 to Park Road 3. Go left on Park Road 3 to Park Road 1. Go left on Park Road 1 to Park Road 4. Continue on Park Rd 4 to Freedom Rd. Go left on Freedom Rd to Old Twenty One Rd. Go right on Old Twenty One Rd to Salt Fork Rd. Continue on Salt Fork Rd to State Route 258. Continue on State Route 258 to River Road. Go right on River Road to the bike turn around. Reverse your route and follow course back to the transition entrance.

The bike aid stations at Mile 15, Mile 25 & Mile 41 with Boom Energy Gel, Water & INFINIT (in bottles), Ice, Cookies, Coke, and Fruit with a neutral table for your special needs bags at Mile 28 & Mile 50.

RUN: Exit the transition area and follow park roads to the Salt Fork Lodge where the Shadbush Trail begins. Continue running on the Shadbush Trail to Park Rd 5. Go left on Park Rd 5 to the Snowmobile Trail along Park Rd 1. Continue on the trail to Park Rd 3 and follow back to Park Rd 18. Go left on Park Rd 18 back to the finish to start lap #2. Water, Ice, INFINIT and BOOM Energy Gel at transition exit, mile #1, #2.5, #3.5, #4.5 and #5.5.

Age Group — 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49,50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+

Elite Open — 15-39 years old, has chance to finish in top 10 overall

Elite Master — 40-49 years old, has chance to finish in top 10 overall

Elite Grand Master — 50+ years old, has chance to finish in top 10 overall

Clydesdale — Males racing weight groups, not age:

  • under 39 & 185lbs-199lbs
  • under 39 & 200lbs-224lbs
  • under 39 & 225lbs +
  • over 40 & 185lbs-199lbs
  • over 40 & 200lbs-224lbs
  • over 40 & 225lbs+

Athena — Females racing weights group, not age group — 150lbs+

Aquabike — racing only the swim and bike portions only (no running)

Triathlon Relay Team — one swimmer, one cyclist, one runner
