2015 Terre Haute Triathlon:
Welcome to the 30th Anniversary of the Thunder in the Valley Triathlon! We are extremely excited to be celebrating this milestone and hope you will all come out and join us for this Indiana favorite and one of the oldest triathlons in the state.
This year will be the biggest and best race to date. Athletes will get to meet and race alongside 6 time Ironman World Champion legend Dave Scott the first inductee into the Ironman Hall of fame. Not only will you get to meet some amazing people but we are going to be giving you top notch athlete swag and race memories you will not forget. The field is currently limited to 500 participants and we expect to fill up quickly. So be sure to sign up quickly for a race to remember and to meet a triathlon legend.
The course is considered fast, and safe:
The race will start promptly at 8:00 a.m.
Pre-race meeting at 7:50 a.m. at the beach house.
Parking is sometimes a bit crowded, so please arrive early with that in mind.
Swim:
The lake swim will be in a rectangle pattern with the bouys on your right. The race will start with on small Elite wave and then go 2 at a time every 10 seconds based on your estimated swim time. Different color Swim caps will be provided to Elite waves, everyone going 2 at a time will have a red swim cap. The water temperature is usually about 70 - 72 degrees. Wetsuits highly recommended. If you do not own a wetsuit, check out wetsuitrental.com
Bike:
The bike course is in good shape and should make for a very fast and safe venue. This is an out and back course with a cone turn-around in the middle of the road at the 20k mark. The bike course is open to traffic, but all major intersections have police blocking traffic. The bike course does have several rollers in the middle section so save some energy for those. Also please note that the city has completed construction on the section of the bike course between miles 3 & 4. There is now a round about where the road used to just branch off to the right. the course remains the same but please adjust your speed to accommodate the round about.
Run:
The run course will be on park trails, and the Heritage Exercise Trail. The Heritage Trail is flat and fast pavement limited to runners, walkers and cyclist. Atleast two water stations will be on the course. There will be a turn-around cone on the Heritage trail at the 4k mark with the last mile heading behind the park and to the western edge on the lake trail. You will then make a right turn as come up to the park road, for the last 1/4 mile back to the beach house in the front of the park.
