SWIM COURSE: The Sprint and the Olympic swim legs both have a beach entrance, and take place in beautiful Lake Tawakoni. Both courses run counter-clockwise and take racers around a small peninsula. The Olympic swim leg shares the same course as the Sprint, however it takes racers farther into the lake for a larger loop to complete 1500 meters. Swimmers exit the water via a boat ramp, which takes them directly into the transition area, so very little running is involved. If lake levels are lower the swim course will start and finish on the beach using a clockwise course.
BIKE COURSE: This 24.8 mile out and back course is mostly flat with very few intersections and only two turns. The Sprint and the Olympic bike legs share the same distance - the same course. That's Right!
RUN COURSE: The Sprint and the Olympic run legs mostly share the same course. The run course takes you out of the transition area and down a short path to a trail head. This short 1/4 mile trail run weaves through trees, before it takes you back to pavement. Once you hit the road, the course quickly takes you out of the park and it becomes an out and back with a couple of rolling hills. Back in the park, it is a fast and straight path to the finish line. The Olympic run course takes you just past the Sprint turn-around and then comes back into the park to Trail Head where Olympic racers head out again for a partial loop.
TRANSITION AREA: The transition area is conveniently close to the swim exit. As soon as racers leave the water, they are only steps from the timing unit and then head directly into the transition area. It is a large transition area, so there will be plenty of room to rack your bike and find your way in and out.
