Event Details:
The 2nd annual Outer Banks Duathlon a Run Bike Run Event
We’ve got a fast, friendly and challenging event for you this year in Nags Head. A great catered post race party and unique Finisher Awards for all participants. This is an event for all ages and skill levels. The run course takes you through the quaint ocean side town of South Nags Head, and is set-up against a challenging fast 20 mile ride through the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge which includes the historic Bodie Island Lighthouse and Oregon Inlet. See the newly posted course maps for more details. As an added feature the second 5K run, to finish this event, is held on the beach at the newly restored Jennette’s Pier. There is a beach-cruiser division available.

Packet Pick-Up
Packet pickup will be available at the Outer Banks TRI Sports store located at 3105 N. Croatan Hwy (in the Seagate North Shopping Center) Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948 (252)715-3278 from 3:00-6:00pm Friday, May 1st, 2015 and at the Transition area on race day from 5:30am until 6:30am. Packet pickup is not mandatory on Saturday, but highly advised in order to avoid lines on race day morning.
Athletes must present their USA Triathlon membership card at packet pick up OR purchase a one-day pass at packet pick-up/race day check-in for $12.00 cash only.
Wave Start Information
There are no wave starts for this event. The race will start at 7am on Gun Time
Post Race Party
There will be a Summer time barbeque cookout for the post race party. Hot Dogs & Hamburgers, Watermelon, Southern Style Sassy Slaw and all the fixin’s. Catering services provided by Stripers Bar and Grille of Manteo.

The Rules
All USA Triathlon rules will be followed and strictly enforced. Drafting is not allowed and will be monitored by roving motorcycles. Only helmets approved by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) may be used in USAT-sanctioned races. Aerobars and disks are approved. All participants must be at least 15 years old.
All riders must stay to the right of their lane at all times other than passing. Please be courteous to the other riders on the course, ride in a straight line and stay right. Two minute USAT blocking penalties will be assessed to all riders not obeying this important safety rule. There will not be a water bottle hand off on the bicycle course so athletes should carry their own fluids.
While riding to transition before the race, warming up and after the event riding back to the car, your helmet MUST be worn and buckled. Disregard of this rule will result in DISQUALIFICATION!

Inclement Weather, Transfers and Deferments
The race director reserves the right to alter or cancel portions of the race as deemed necessary for safety reasons. NO RAIN DATE. TRANSFERS or DEFERMENTS will be coordinated with the race director via email at [email protected].
Water/Aid Stations
Water stations will be located near the turn-around on the out and back run(s). An aid and water station will be located at the Transition area. Bikers must carry their own water. No water stops on the bike, there will be course safety personnel and Police Emergency services at the Bike turn-around.
Course Time Limits
1st 5k Run – 8am
20 Mile Bike – 11am
2nd 5k Run – 12pm
Post Race Activities
The awards ceremony will take place at 11am and conclude immediately after the completion of the race. Athletes can relax and enjoy the BBQ cookout. Friends, family and spectators can join the post race party for an additional fee.

Top 3 Overall Male/Female
Top 3 Masters Male/Female (40 & Up, Scoring software will
automatically post the fastest 3 in the Masters category and post the
next 3 for respective age group award )
Top 3 Male/Female in the following age categories: 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 & over
Relays (consist of 1 runner & 1 cyclist) All team members must have valid USAT membership or 1 day pass purchased at packet pick-up or day of event. $12.00 cash only.

Age groups for this year’s OBX Duathlon will be based on age as of 12/31 of 2015, not the age on race day. For a detailed explanation of this rule change please visit http://www.usat-ma.org/info.htm.
OBX Duathlon reserves the right to add/delete categories and awards prior to race day based on participation.
