The Kids 5-Mile Duathlon offers young athletes a chance to run and bike together in one-fun-race! The 1-mile first run begins the race followed by a 3-mile road bike on roads closed to traffic and the final run is 1 mile on soft crushed granite and sand paths.
The March 7th Kids 5- Mile Duathlon will be the first of our Three-Race Kids 5-Mile Series (March 7, April 19, May 10) for which we will have Series Champions in each 2-year age group (5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14). To be eligible for the Series Championship athletes must race in all three events.
Run – The 1 mile run course will run on granite paths for a short loop before returning to the Transition Area where the bikes are set up.
Bike - The bike course is course located entirely within the park on roads closed to traffic. It will exit the parking lot area at Granite Beach, then complete a 3.5 mile loop within the park.
Run – The 1 mile run will run on granite paths, single track trails, with an aid station at the start of the run and the half way point.
The Transition area will be on a first-come basis. The transition area at all TBF Racing events is for athletes only. All non-athletes must remain outside of the transition area at all times on race day. Bodymarking will be take place at the entrance to the transition area and must be completed before you enter the transition area. Athletes will have their race number marked on their legs and arms and have their age division on their calf. Glass or bottles are not allowed in the transition area.
Granite Bay State Park on Folsom lake is located at the end of Douglas Blvd, 5-6 miles East of I-80. Turn right at the third stop sign after entering the park for the Granite Beach parking lot. There is a $12 vehicle charge for day-use or $125 for an annual pass. Contact phone 916 988 0205.
Aid stations will be located in the transition area and at mile one on the run course, serving cold water and FLUID Electrolyte beverage.
For the Kids 5-Mile Duathlon, there will be 2-year age groups for boys and girls 5 to 14 years old. These age groups will be: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14. Awards will be presented three-deep in each 2-year age group.
For the Three-Race Series, athletes racing in all three events will be eligible for Series Championship Awards. Athletes changing age groups during the Series will finish the Series in their earlier age group.
Listening devices of any kind: MP3, IPod, headphones, etc…are not allowed on the run or bike courses. Helmets must be worn and buckled on the bike at all times. Run numbers must be worn on the run and when crossing the finish line.
Included for each competitor is a custom Kids 5-Mile Duathlon race shirt and athlete goody bag with CLIF Bar, Emerald Nuts, and other product samples.
Included for each competitor is a post race meal of hot soup or chili with fruit, cookies and beverage.
