etails
  • Cyclocross courses are held on a mix of terrain including dirt, mud, sand, water, and snow.
  • Various obstacles are incorporated to test riders' skills and strength. These may be natural such as hills, creeks, logs, and ditches.
  • Man-made obstacles include hurdles and course torturosity.
  • Course is fairly short - between 1 to 3 miles in length.
Winning
  • Riders complete multiple laps (or single lap depending on age).
  • The winner completes the most in the allotted time which is usually 30-60 minutes plus one lap.
Why Cyclocross?
  • Successful races are creative and challenging. The best are held in town parks of some type, in order to allow and encourage spectators.
  • Part of the thrill of cyclocross includes cheering and heckling (all in fun), the lap format that allows the crowd to see the racers for the entire race rather than just as they pass by once on a road course.
  • Riders and bikes are often covered in mud, and falls are expected and even cheered.
  • Mechanic support is allowed, and bike changes are the norm in professional races. Some informal races even include beer hand-offs!
Clinics
  • Training clinics two weeks prior to races where you can:
  • Learn the course/have an edge over your competition,
  • Figure out what this sport is all about.
  • Clinics will break into skill level groups.
Races
  • Four races will be held:
  • Kids: 5-13 years (one Central Lap);
  • Junior: 10-17 years (3/4 Full course) 30 minutes;
  • Adult Beginner: (3/4 Full course) 30 minutes;
  • Adult Non-Beginner: 60 minutes.
  • The Kids race will be on a course that is about half of the full course. The Junior course will be about 3/4 of the full course and the Beginner Adult course is the same as the Junior. Adults will self-select as "Beginner."
  • Kids race is one lap, Junior and Beginner Adult races are 1/2 hour, Adult is 1 hour.
