May 30, 2015We look forward to another amazing 2015 race. This 800 meter swim, 12.5 mile bike, and 3.1 mile run triathlon course has seen thousands of athletes achieve their endurance goals. You won’t find a more spectator-friendly park and race venue allowing friends and family to watch you in action. So bring the bikes, wetsuits, and lawn chairs and we’ll see you bright and early Saturday, May 30th!
Swim
Swimmers will leave in a wave format based on your age group/division.
Wave groups will gather at transition area 1 and then follow the directions of the race official holding the designated wave sign to the swim start. As one wave leaves, the “on deck” group will gather and proceed to the swim start.
The swim course is an 800 meter clockwise loop that begins at the west boat ramp (see video embedded above), proceeds around the pond, under the bridge, and finishes back at the beach area where you will exit and run to transition area 1.
Large orange directional swim buoys will be placed around the course for direction.
Wetsuit strippers are allowed to help you remove your wetsuit however move to the side so that you will not impede other athletes. RaceTri will NOT be providing wetsuit strippers. Please instruct your wetsuit removal team to be careful as we have seen wetsuit damage on occasion.
Wetsuits are mandatory.
Utah County Search & Rescue will be monitoring the water and your safety. Water temperature expected to be 63-68 degrees on race day. They will pull anyone out of the water not wearing a wetsuit.
Bike
The bike course is a 2 loop ride through the city of Salem. Each loop will cover approximately 6.25 miles for a total ride of 12.5 miles. When finishing your first loop please stay to the right and continue on to your second loop. STAY RIGHT FOR YOUR SECOND LOOP. When finishing your second loop move to the left as you approach the transition area. See video above for visual.
Total elevation gain and descent per loop is 365 feet.
The course will be monitored by Salem police, volunteers, and will be marked with TRI signs and cones.
When you exit out of the transition area you will turn left to go around the pond. From there the course will be almost all right turns. In past years the course reaches the most south west point at Elk Ridge Drive, however because of problems with that road the course will now turn right earlier at 650 W. The course is slightly shorter. See the interactive Bike course map CLICK HERE
Run
After completing the bike course you will exit transition and proceed on the 5k run course.
The run course goes throughout the streets of Salem and will have 1 aid station about half way through the run. Here is an interactive map of the course CLICK HERE Returning Salem sprinters will notice that the run course finishes over the beautiful, iconic south bridge as you take your final steps to glory.
Follow directional signs and be sure to smile when you hit the finish line!
