The inaugural On the Trails Duathlon will take place at Carvins Cove this September 28th and will showcase some of the most popular views and trails the Cove has to offer.
The race starts with a 2.5 mile out and back trail run up and down Waters Edge Trail. Participants then transition to mountain bikes for a 12 mile loop on Happy Valley, Schoolhouse, Enchanted Forest and Arrowhead trails. The course wraps up with another 2.5 mile out and back run. This is a great course that offers everything from fire roads to technical, hilly single tracks and is designed to show you what the Cove has to offer for both runners and bikers. It is highly recommended that all mountain bikers ride a functional mountain bike as the bike section of the trail comprises about half of the distance with technical single track.Participants will meet at Carvins Cove Boat Landing.
Early registration lasts until August 30: $40 individual or $60 per team
Regular registration from September 1-25: $50 individual or $70 per team
Day-of registration September 28: $60 individual or $80 per team
Course Information:
The race starts with a 2.5 mile out and back trail run up and down Waters Edge Trail which leads to the top of the mountain near the Hollins trailhead. Participants then transition to mountain bikes for a 12 mile loop on Happy Valley, Schoolhouse, Enchanted Forest and Arrowhead trails. The final 2.5 mile run is a replica of the initial run up and down the mountain with a finish at the Carvins Cove boat dock.
Directions:
Please note that most mountain bikers are familiar with the Bennett Springs side of Carvins Cove, but this race is staged at the boat dock side. The physical address is: 9644 Reservoir Road, Roanoke, VA 24019
