Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, also known as SIDS, remains one of the most serious medical problems. In the US alone, a child is lost to SIDS every 4 hours, meaning more kids die from SIDS each year than from all forms of cancer combined. In fact, according to the National Center for Health Statistics, the state of Ohio ranks 48th out of 50 states for total infant deaths and 49th out of 50 states for African-American babies. The purpose of the SIDS Awareness 5k is to combat that ranking, educating our community about the risk factors of SIDS and spreading awareness of Safe Sleep.
Every year, we gather hundreds of runners and walkers to participate in our SIDS Awareness 5k, but this year is going to be a little bit different. In honor of our 5th Anniversary, we are announcing some big changes that we think you will be very excited about—starting with our goal of exceeding 1000 participants! Of course, there will still be prizes, free t-shirts, and our Kids' Fun Run.

Course Information:
The new 5k course will begin around World of Beer and Shadowbox Live, go down Front Street, through the Scioto Audobon Park, and back.
What's great about the course:
- Beautiful and diverse scenery – the course starts in downtown Columbus, OH but travels through the Scioto Audobon park, making the view a mix of the beautiful Columbus skyline and the fresh greenery of the park
- Certified course and chip timing for runners – a high degree of accuracy for running enthusiasts interested in testing themselves.
- Great competition for runners – below you can see the winning times from last year’s event.
- Safety conscious event – clearly defined course with markers, volunteers scattered throughout the course to help, police escort and intersecting streets shut down.
- Really great cause – Every 3.5 hours in this country a child dies from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, also known as SIDS. Proceeds from our event go to support medical research aimed at solving SIDS, and to help local families impacted by this horrible problem.
What makes the course challenging:
- Turns – This year's course runs through the Scioto Audobon trails and has one very sharp turn at the half-way mark
- Transitions – The course both starts and finishes on Front Street, meaning there are two points of transition between road and trail terrain.
- Competition – Each year we draw impressive athletes and it is neat to see how camaraderie and friendly competition help everyone to do their best.

Directions:
The course will begin at 501 S. Front St. Columbus, OH 43215 and parking will be available on Sycamore Street (0.3 miles away.) Other than that, there will also be metered parking along Front Street available. Directions to the parking lot can be found here.
