The third annual Montana Island Challenge will be held Aug 9thand 10th in the mountain ranges surrounding Lewistown and raises money or youth programs in Central Montana.

This event includes a 6k and 9k run or hike and a 15k run at the Half Moon Ranch in the beautiful Snowy Mountains on August 9th. On August 10th, join us for a 10 mile or 22 mile bike ride through the Judith Mountains.

If you love the idea of helping but are not a runner, hiker or biker, you can still participate!  Raise $75 through pledges or donations and you will receive a medal for rising to the challenge of supporting the local youth.  There will be additional prizes the more money you raise.  Then come out and enjoy the after event party.

Registration can be done on line at:www.montanaislandchallenge.com  or contact race coordinators at [email protected].

Three non-profit organizations combine to bring this annual outdoor challenge to you.  Proceeds from the event help support Lewistown Boys and Girls Club, Central Montana Youth Mentoring and Lewistown Ice Skating Association.

Course Information:

9K & 15K
The 9K and 15K head west from the starting point along a old county road, where, after a 1/2 mile they climb in elevation along an awesome hillside. Make sure to raise up your head and look at the west, the climb in elevation rewards you with an awesome view. The 9K dips down adjacent to the ranch’s lake while the 15K travels up hill revealing an impressive view. The routes rejoin at the start of the two toughest hills: Cat Hill and Cindy’s Hill.  Definitely, you will have wanted to eat your Wheaties, as the inclines of these two hills are tough! The good news is that once you climb these two “Montana Island Challengers”, it is a nice run along the ridgeline’s tree-shaded, grass-covered logging roads. The two will again part ways at Junction Station where the 9K splits to the NE and will travel through the beautiful Nelson’s Canyon. The 15K will take a longer route around to the SE and eventually make the decline down Moose Path. The two join at the base of Moose Path and Nelson’s Canyon, where you will spot and begin your descent into the finish line. Sightings of elk, deer and other wildlife are possible on any of the routes.

6K plus another 100 yards
We don’t call it the “Montana Island Challenge” for nothing… even our 5K turned out to be a 6K – because we know you can do it! Headed south from the finish line, the 6K takes runners and hikers up Nelson’s Canyon on just under 4 mile route that winds up the Canyon, past Junction Station and around to Moose Path.  This route features grass-covered logging roads,

enclosed tree- lined trail routes and fragrant pine trees.  This route may be shorter, but it is still a grand workout.
