Qualification Requirements

The 100km Ultra-trail has a permit for 15hours, so this will be for advanced & elite runners only. Time-barriers for this race are stringent and you will have to submit qualifying races during online registration.

You will need to have done a 100km trail race in under 16h30hours or 50km trail race in less than 7.5 hours. For trail races between 50-90km an average pace of sub 9:15/km and 120-168km sub 10:25/km. For other races: Comrades: sub 8:30hours, Two-Oceans sub 5:00 hours. We cannot accept marathon times unfortunately. You will be required to submit the qualifying races during entry and registration.

Ultra-trail Cape Town is a point-to-point trail race that takes place on Table Mountain, the iconic natural world heritage site and one of the new Natural Seven Wonders of the World. 
A race that covers the iconic Cape Town landmarks of Lions Head, Signal Hill, Table Mountain, Hout Bay, Llandudno, the Constantia Winelands,  Kirstenbosch Nature Reserve  and Devils Peak.

Runners will have access to 9 aid stations between the start and finish and will never go more than 15 kilometers without an opportunity for aid. The route, while being predominantly on the mountain and within natural surrounds, is purposefully diverted into the city at certain points to tie together Cape Town’s varied cultural-, built- and natural heritage. 

The 62km Mountain-trail is a point-to-point Ultra that takes place on Table Mountain, the iconic natural world heritage site and one of the new Natural Seven Wonders of the World. 
The start point is in Cape Town City Centre- Goes through the Bo Kaap, runs along the length of Signal Hill and Lions Head, traverses Table Mountain before descending into the Constantia Wine Valley, returning along the lower contours of Table Mountain via Newlands Forrest and Devils Peak for a final descent into the City Bowl.

Runners will have access to five aid stations between the start and finish and will never go more than 12 kilometers without an opportunity for aid.

You will need to be very fit (plenty of hill training) and be comfortable with spending extended periods on your feet for this race. It is possible to hard hike this route in the allotted time of 15 hours provided that the pace is steady. 

The 17km Urban-trail is a point-to-point hybrid trail race that loops the City Bowl. The start point is in Cape Town City Center. It then moves through the Company Gardens, Greenmarket Square, Bo-Kaap, the length of Signal Hill, Lions Head and the lower contours of Table Mountain with a final descent into the City Bowl. Runners will have access to one aid station.

The route can easily be walked at a leisurely pace be completed within the cutoff time.


This race is a true mix of Cape Town’s most vibrant Cityscapes and natural beauty.

The 100km race has a 200 person limit of which 20 places will be withheld for elite runners.

The 62km and 17km races each have a 400 person limit with 40 Entries in each race withheld for sponsors, development and elite runners. Each of these two races will reserve 10 Team entries for Charity Teams
