Thank you so much for your registration in the 2010 Shawnee Mission Triathlon. We cannot begin to express our disappointment in the inclement weather Sunday which resulted in the cancellation of our 26th Annual celebration of this great event. We understand you trained for months or longer leading up to this event and were looking forward to the outstanding competition for which the Shawnee Mission Triathlon is known. For us there is no greater enjoyment than seeing seasoned triathletes and first time triathletes competing to their fullest capability with a crowd of supporters cheering them on. Athletes gathered around the refreshments at the conclusion of the event celebrating their great accomplishment is truly our greatest moment. Some of you have asked about the results of the event as it stood at the cancellation time.

Johnson County Park and Recreation District worked hand in hand with Weather Or Not weather service and at the time of the cancellation we were very aware that continuing the race would place our participants in a very high risk situation. The storm approached and then hit hard with lightening, rain and wind. Many of you expressed your appreciation for the early warnings you received to return to your cars and we appreciate your understanding. As many of you know Johnson County Park & Recreation District Board policy allows for two park closings of Shawnee Mission Park each year. One is for the Kansas City Corporate Challenge Duathlon/Triathlon and the other for the Shawnee Mission Triathlon. One stipulation of the park closing is the park must be reopened to the general public by 12 noon for each of these events. Unfortunately, this does not allow us to delay the event much later than the original start time nor does it allow us to reschedule these events.

Once the race begins, we have already paid for 99% of the expenses associated with the event, so we appreciate your understanding of our no refund policy. We appreciate your participation and look forward to your future participation in our JCPRD events. As a gesture of our appreciation we will be sending each individual a $20 coupon and each team member a $10 coupon to be used at any of the following events - the BikeSource Duathlon/Triathlon in May of 2011, the Shawnee Mission Triathlon in 2011 or the Olathe Medical Center Women’s Triathlon in September 2011. We value your continued support of our events and of the many programs and activities provided by Johnson County Park and Recreation District.
