Fearless Swimming Open Water Anxiety Management Course For Triathletes : |
Triathlon : Triathlon Training |
Master the skills that will keep you calm in open water. This course is based upon the Ironman Series book , "Fearless Swimming for Triathletes" and is taught by the author, Ingrid Loos Miller. Participants will get plenty of attention learning to manage the mass start, panic, dizziness, navigation, cold water, murky water, equipment, sighting, and how to calm your body and mind. This is a gentle introduction to open water swimming.
All sessions begin at noon and finish by 3PM. Schedule is subject to change in case of weather/water quality issues.
All classes are held in the lagoon at the Newport Dunes in Newport Beach. There is no surf at this location. Street parking is available on Back Bay Drive next to the lagoon, or you can park in the Newport Dunes Resort Lot for approximately $15.
You should register for the class you plan to attend. If you are unable to attend the class you registered for, you are welcome to attend the class at another scheduled time. A wetsuit will be provided for you for a single class and you must notify Ingrid at her email address [email protected] of your height and weight at least 4 days prior to the event so she can rent a wetsuit for you.
Open water swimming is not considered safe within 72 hours of measurable rain. Safety is our biggest concern so class will be rescheduled for the following month if it rains within 72 hours of a class session. Refunds are not available.
Private sessions are available on a limited basis. Private sessions are not recommended as they do not provide ample "mob swimming" practice for participants. Contact Ingrid if you require a private session.
By registering for the class once, you can automatically take and retake the class whenever it is held, without signing paperwork all over again. Bring your own wetsuit for class retakes. Usually students that want to retake, come for the water work only which will begin by 1:15.
No. There is no surf at this location. Beginners are strongly advised against entering races at beaches with surf as managing waves is a high-level skill.
This class does not teach freestyle swim technique. It is specific to open water triathlon racing techniques. If you struggle in the water you need swimming lessons which Ingrid can provide. Go to the Fearless Swimming website for details or contact her direct by email at [email protected].
This 3-hour class is taught 10 times a year. Register once and you can repeat the class as many times as you wish. Please register for the first session you wish the attend. Class dates are listed below.
$125 for the class with unlimited retakes for one year. Includes cap and book.
