Splash, cycle, beat feet in the Quantico Tri on August 24! Hosted aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, each leg of the sprint distance event features a unique view of the "Crossroads of the Marine Corps."
The Tri will start with two waves. Athletes will be notified of their assigned wave following registration. Participants will begin with a 400-yard swim in the Quantico 50M Pool by completing 16 lengths using the width of the pool before making a short trek to the transition area.
Athletes then set off on an 8.5-mile cycle course touring the main side of the Marine base, founded in 1917. The scenic course features shady tree-lined Russell Rd, named after Major General John Henry Russell, Jr., 16th Commandant of the Marine Corps, and Purvis Road named for Marine Cpl Hugh Purvis, who received a medal of honor for his actions during the 1871 Korean Campaign. Fuller Road, named for 15th Commandant of the Marine Corps, Major General Ben Hebard Fuller, demands continued drive as athletes complete miles 6 and 7 of the cycle course.
One final Commandant, Major General George Barnett, the 12th Commandant of the Marine Corps, stands guard on Barnett Avenue as athletes cycle the remaining two miles toward the transition zone.
After staging the cycle, athletes head back on Barnett Ave to complete a 5K run. This distance is similar to the three-mile event every Marine must complete annually as part of the Marine Corps physical fitness test.
