3rd Annual Bad Boy Kids Triathlon for Literacy Set for July
The third annual Bad Boy Kids Triathlon for Literacy is set for Saturday, July 12, 2014. Kids ages 5-18 will swim, bike and run to benefit the Ozark Foothills Literacy Project.
No experience is necessary to compete in the triathlon. In addition to water wings, young participants may also use bikes with training wheels. The triathletes will first swim laps in the Lyon College pool; next, bike a loop around the campus; and lastly, run a route that includes the Lyon soccer field. Ages 5-6 will swim 25 yards, bike .5 miles, and run .25 miles; ages 7-9 will swim 50 Yards, bike 1 mile, and run .5 miles; ages 10-12 will swim 100 yards, bike 2 miles, and run .75 miles; and ages 13-18 will swim 150 yards, bike 3 miles, and run 1 mile.
All finishers will receive a medal. First, second and third place medals will be given to top male and top female finishers in each age group. Separate awards will be given to the 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18 year old age groups.
The cost of the event is $20 until July 11, and $25 on race day. Participation is limited to 100 triathletes. Athletes must bring their own bikes and helmets. The first heat will begin promptly at 9:00am. To pre-register, visit literacyindependence.org/kidstri or call 870-793-5912.

The Ozark Foothills Literacy Project, which serves Fulton, Sharp, Izard and Independence Counties, teaches adults who are learning to read and adults who are learning English. Based in Batesville, Arkansas, the Literacy Project is a United Way member agency and part of the Arkansas Literacy Councils network of adult literacy organizations. The Literacy Project relies on trained volunteers to provide one-on-one tutoring for adult students who need help with their basic reading or English language skills.
