Down syndrome is caused by a 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome and occurs in 1 in every 691 births. Approximately 400,000 Americans have Down syndrome. That extra genetic material means that our friends with Down syndrome will find a few of the typical milestones in life a little more challenging to reach. You are a runner. You get it. Some days its all you can do to lace up your shoes and get out there, but you do it. You keep going, you work hard, you believe and you achieve. Our Buddies with Down syndrome do the same thing in aspects of their everyday lives just like you when you choose to run. Therefore we challenge you, dont run this 5K for your Buddy. Run the 5K because you are inspired by your Buddy and you want to celebrate that perseverance he or she has to achieve their goals just as you do.
The mission of the Down Syndrome Alliance of the Midlands is to enhance the lives of individuals and families touched by Down syndrome.Course Information:
