The Double Road Race was created by Bob Anderson in the summer of 2010. The first official Double Road Race was held December 23, 2012. Nearly 1400 people registered for the Pleasanton, California event. The Double Road Race is a 15k (9.3 miles) distance race consisting of two legs, an opening 10k leg followed by a 5k leg with a halftime in between featuring the Recovery Zone. Ten Double Road Races will be held in 2014 and 14 are planned for 2015.
What makes the Double unique is the halftime break in between the 10K & 5K legs. Depending on how fast a runner finishes the 10K leg, they'll have plenty of time to stretch out, get a massage, hop on an exercise bike, grab a snack, hydrate or do whatever they please before the start of the 5K leg! Strategy comes into play because should you give it your all on the 10K leg? Or maybe the 10K leg? It's all up to the runner, and at this exciting new event there's always going to be fun for every level of runner along with every age of runner as well!
