2014 Bengal Triathlon:
The Bengal Triathlon is perfect for beginners and intermediate triathletes!
The swim takes place on Friday night at the ISU Reed Gym pool.
Show up to swim your half-mile anytime between 3 and 8pm.
The bike/run will be on Saturday with the fastest swimmer off at 9:30am!
Racers will leave according to their swim time (so if you were 1 minute slower than the fastest swimmer, you will take off at 9:31am).
It's a great start to the triathlon season!

SWIM: • The swim will take place in the Reed Gym swimming pool and will consist of 700 yards (28 lengths/14 laps). Timers/counters will be provided for you. You may also be asked to help time/count for the person ahead of you. We will swim TWO PEOPLE to a lane (stay on your side of the lane do not circle).
• Racers will be start according to swim times. Start times will be posted Saturday morning. The first racer (fastest swimmer) will start bike/run at 9:30am!
BIKE: • Racers will leave the Transition Area (front parking lot of Reed Gym) and proceed south down Martin Luther King, Jr Drive. They will turn left onto Cesar Chavez and follow it around Humboldt, passing Davis Field. They will cross 5th Ave and turn left on 4th Ave. They will then proceed 6 miles to the turnaround, just past Century High School. They will return on 4th Ave to Humboldt, to Cesar Chavez and onto MLK to enter transition.
RUN: • Racers will leave the transition area south passing in front of Reed Gym on sidewalk and south onto Red Hill Road. They will pass behind the Rendezvous Center and turn left onto the Red Hill Trail. They will continue on the paved trail behind Davis Field, behind the Cemetery until turning around at the corner of 5th and Barton (bus stop). They will proceed back following the same route. Once they come down the hill and off the trail, runners should stay to the RIGHT and proceed on the sidewalk and UP THE STAIRS on Red Hill Road (sidewalk). From there, proceed on the road and to the finish line on the lawn in front of Reed Gym.
IN THE EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER OR HAZARDOUS ROAD CONDITIONS, THE BIKE PORTION OF THE RACE WILL BE ELIMINATED AND THE EVENT WILL BE CHANGED TO AN AQUATHLON (SWIM RUN).
MEDICAL: • A Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) will be onsite for the entire race. His/Her onsite services will be available free to the race participants. Any additional medical expenses incurred will be the sole responsibility of the race participant (i.e., ambulance transfer to hospital).
AID STATIONS: • Water and restroom facilities will be available at the Transition Area (restrooms inside Reed Gym). There will be NO AID STATIONS on the bike portion of the race. There will be an AID STATION the intersection of Barton Rd. and the Red Hill Trail (approx 1.8 mi). Shower facilities will be available to participants after the race.
AWARDS: • Awards will be given to the top males/females in the following categories: COLLEGIATE (additional awards for top ISU STUDENT - intramural championships); UNDER 40; OVER 40; JUNIORS (18 and under) and TEAM.
GENERAL: • All participants will be required to sign a liability waiver before competing. • Children under the age of 18 must also have a parent/guardian sign a waiver AND parent or legal guardian MUST be onsite during the duration of the race. Children under 14 must have an adult accompany them for the duration of the bike leg. It is also recommended that an adult accompany children along the run portion of the race. • Participants are expected to follow the directions and instructions of all race officials and public authorities. • If a participant withdraws from the race at any time, it is his/her responsibility to notify the race director at the start/finish line. • There will be NO aid stations available during the bike portion of the race. One aid station (at Barton Rd and Red Hill Trail) will be available during the run. • By participating in this race, the athlete acknowledges himself/herself to be in good physical condition. • If it is SNOWING or ICY or if there are HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS on Saturday, the bike portion of the race will be canceled. We will still run! If it is raining, plan to bikehowever if it is raining all corners (and 20 feet on each side of each corner) will be no passing zones!
