Description:

2014 Summer Open Sprint Triathlon:

• The 7th annual Summer OPEN Sprint Triathlon is the kick off to the Colorado Triathlon Season, and we kick it off in style! It's time to dust off the bike and pull the wetsuit out of the closet for this Colorado spring classic. This race, the 1st stop on the Colorado Tour, takes place at Union Reservoir in Longmont! From beginners tackling their first event to veterans tuning up for a competitive season the Summer OPEN is about friends and teammates, smiling and cheering.

• Men's or woman's cut technical t-shirts are back in our traditional Summer OPEN "Red". Great goodie bags, one of our biggest expos of the year, a ton of raffles, and closed bike and run course are just some of the highlights. This race is capped at 500 athletes to maintain a fun, yet lively, and laid back feel. Due to the low cap we've sold out the past 5 years so be be sure to take advantage of early registration.

The swim course is rectangular shaped, with the swimmers traveling in a counter clockwise direction.  Participants exit the water at the northern end of the course next to the dock/boat ramp and run about 100 yards to the transition area along a carpeted path.  Yes you read that correctly the path from the waters edge to the T/A will be CARPETED!!! The water temperature at Union Reservoir normally ranges between mid to high 70's this time of year

SUMMER OPEN TRIATHLON BIKE COURSE (12.4 Miles):
The cycling course will take place in and around Union reservoir, offering breathtaking views of the snowcapped mountains only miles away.
The bike course is a three-lap course - each lap being 4 miles in length. The course is COMPLETELY CLOSED TO TRAFFIC!!! .  The bike course will take you out of the Union Park area and onto a very flat and fast course with no hills to speak of.  Please be sure to review the map as you'll be on the left hand side of the road on CR26 heading out then when you return after the last lap you'll come into the Res on the left hand side.

SUMMER OPEN TRIATHLON RUN COURSE (3.1 Miles):  The 5K run is an out & back course along the dirt road adjacent to Union reservoir, with only one short hill to climb just before mile 1.  On the way back dont forget to look just beyond the water and youll see a breathtaking view of Longs peak and many other snow capped mountains.  There will be an aid station at just past the 1st mile that you'll hit twice on the out & back course.

SUMMER OPEN TRIATHLON TRANSITION AREA: Without Limits triathlon staging areas are set up to ensure the safety and privacy of the racers and the security of their equipment. Please follow these guidelines: The Transition Area Opens at 6:15 am.  Race staff will close the transition area 15 minutes prior to the start of the 1st wave (7:45AM).  All Athletes must be out of the T/A by this time. Please Gauge your time accordingly! The transition area is strictly limited to racers only No family members, friends or coaches inside transition. Only registered athletes, race staff, volunteers and those credentialed for admission are allowed.  Racking your bike is on a first come first serve basis.  There will only be 4 bikes per bike rack allowing ample space for each athlete.  Any gear for your T1 (swim/bike) or T2 (bike/run) transition will be placed near your bike, please no bags near the fencing or at the end of transition racks.

Carpet will lead you from the end of the swim to the beginning of the T/A.  Large Wash Buckets will be on-hand at the beginning of the T/A to wash off your feet quickly.  Without Limits Staff will re-open transition as soon as the last cyclist has proceeded to the run course.  Athletes will be required to demonstrate race numbers when exiting transition to the T/A Security Volunteer Staff who will be on hand to check that the athletes race # corresponds to their bike #s. All bikes must be removed from the racks by 12:30.  Do not duck under or step over fencing that is constructed as perimeter borders for the transition.
