Great event for first time triathletes, you have all summer to train.
Stellar temps in October mid 70's.
Post race food provided by Papa John's pizza, along with fruit and bagels.
Swim - Both pools start at 8:30am
The swim cut-off time is 18 minutes. There are 2 large, 8 lane pools at Burkwood. The ladies will start cozy inside at the 25 yard pool. The guys will swim in the outdoor 25 meter pool. Yes, guys the outdoor pool is heated! In water start, no diving, 15 seconds apart. Swim is a "snake" pattern format, up and down one lane under the rope, up and down the next lane until you navigate the full 400.
This course is quite rural and country style... rolling, but no major hills. There are two short hills, single digit speeds, but not at all impossible! It is out and back with a small lollipop in the middle of a residential neighborhood for half a mile. There are 5 churches on the route with police and volunteers to help, but please stay awake and aware. Bike course closed at 11:15am, all police & vols released. This course is 20k or 12.4 miles, the map title incorrectly says 12.1
The run is 2 loops in the adjoining neighborhood. It has a small grade hill, but again not major... Hey, we are not in the mountains...no worries! You will love it. Noon run course is closed, vols released. There is a big steep downhill from the Burkwood parking lot woods that connects to the neighborhood. PLEASE BE CAREFUL HERE. The final quarter mile of the course goes around back of the rear tennis courts, it is gravel here mixed in with cinder stone. There is a increase grade up to the finish field.
