Description:

2014 Oakland Triathlon Festival

The Oakland Triathlon Festival is all about the incredible triathlon community we have in Northern California. The history of Oakland is symbolic and the Oak Tree (strength and endurance) represents a triathlete perfectly, which makes this event a natural fit for many years to come!   Our goal is to showcase the beautiful City of Oakland, create fundraising/giving to all the Oakland sports programs, and encompass all our fellow endurance athletes around the country. Come join us in creating the largest west coast urban triathlon, featuring Sprint and Olympic distances for new and experienced endurance athletes.

Course Information:

Course Information- Sprint

Swim Course
The wave start swim is held in the Oakland Estuary starting at the Jack London Aquatic Center near Estuary Park and ending just south of Alice St.  The swim will be a deep water start.  Water flow will be out to bay on August 31, 2014 and will be traveling at 7:07: -0.78 knots (max ebb) 9:58: 0 knots Slack, flood begins. What does this mean?  You will be swimming downstream which will be much safer and creating much faster swim times overall.

T1
After exiting the water, participants run north on Alice St. and will cross over the railroad tracks at the Jack London pedestrian crossing.  You will need to climb a series of stairs crossing over the railroad tracks and then down a series of stairs to the other side.  This will take you out to 2nd street and into transition.  The distance between the swim exit and transition is .2 miles and you can bring shoes or sandals down to the swim exit if you wish.

Bike Course
The bike course begins at Jackson and 2nd St, heads up Jackson to 4th street heading right and then heading to Broadway and heading north. Making a left turn on 30th will travel north to Mandela, Mandela to Grand, Grand to Frontage Rd, into the Port of Oakland and looping back into Jack London Square from 5th St.  This will be one loop course for the Sprint.

T2
The Bike In access to transition is adjacent to Alice and 2nd St. The flow for this transition is north to south with the run exit at Madison and 2nd St.  You will exit transition and head towards Oak St.

Run Course
The run course begins at Madison and 2nd St heading south towards Oak St.  You will turn left on Oak St heading towards Lake Merritt.  Once you  come up to Lake Merritt the sprint run course will turn around and head back to Jack London Square.  You will follow signage back over the Jack London pedestrian crossing at the railroad tracks circling around and finishing in the middle of Jack London Square
