Event: Join more than 300 individuals, firefighters, family/friends and corporate teams for a morning of fun, challenge and purpose. The Fight For Air Climb is a unique event where individuals and teams race, run or walk up 53 flights of stairs. This is a competitive event with awards going to individuals and teams with the best climb time, number of team members and fundraising achievements. Once you complete the Climb, stay and enjoy food, drinks and entertainment in the courtyard.
Why: The Climb is a way for the community to join the fight against lung disease, which causes physical and emotional distress for more than 800,000 Arizonans. Asthma is the third leading cause of hospitalization among children under the age of 15, and is the leading cause of school absenteeism. Lung cancer is the top cancer killer in the nation. COPD claims a life every 4 minutes. Americans are breathing polluted air everyday. We have a lot to fight for!
Purpose: The money raised from the Fight For Air Climb will fund research that focuses on treatments and cures for lung disease, local educational programs, advocacy efforts and our Camp Not-A-Wheeze, camp for kids ages 7-14 with moderate to severe asthma.
Registration & Fundraising: The registration fee is $20 for an individual or team member and $15 for those wanting to participate in a half climb. This year we are proud to announce a Kids Climb for children 8 to 13. Registration fee for the Kids Climb is $15. There is a small commitment to raise $100 per participant to help in the fight against lung disease. Help us celebrate 100 years in the Arizona community by raising $100 in the Fight For Air Climb!
Compete in the Firefighter Challenge: Teams of five or more firefighters will compete for the title of the fastest Fire Department. Firefighters climb in gym gear or full gear (mask, boots, tank, etc.) excluding their ax. Their choice! Firefighters can also climb in the Individual Firefighter Challenge for the title of the fastest firefighter.
Climbers will climb the stairwell of two towers inside the Renaissance Square in Downtown Phoenix. Once they reach the top of the first tower they will take an elevator down, walk around to the second tower and finish on the top floor. Each participant will receive a medal at the Finish Line and will have the opportunity to take a individual or team photo outside on the top patio overlooking the beautiful Camelback Mountain.
