6th Annual, fun-filled, family event created to raise money for leukemia research and benefit local families with leukemia. This is the race to be at this fall if you are looking to help a good cause, run/walk a fun course, and participate in fun fall festivities! We have a 5k, 2-Mile, and a Kid's Fun Run to draw participants of all ages and abilities, plus tons of food, prizes, giveaways, one of the best goodie bags and a large health fair that has over 10 booths with tons of free information!

About This Event:
This race was founded by the Dalessandro family in memory of their son and brother, Rich Dalessandro. Rich passed away after a strong battle with leukemia on April 29, 2007. The race will run throughout the Village of Dalton, where Rich was from. Proceeds will go to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help fund research for this disease and local families battling leukemia.
Event Description/Special Features:
This event is a Tier 2, 2013 Subway Challenge Series event and is a certified 5k course. It a one-loop course that includes some hills and has a beautiful slightly downhill finish for the last half-mile! Race map can be found at www.ohiochallengeseries.com under course maps. There will be fun for everyone with a DJ, raffles, donuts & cider, and much more! Post-race massages will again be offered this year to participants! There will be multiple basket raffles and you can purchase tickets for $2 each, 3 for $5, 6 for $10, 14 for $20 to benefit the above mentioned causes.
Team Challenge:
For the Team Challenge, largest team wins no matter the time or event! Winning team gets a family-style dinner at Das Dutch Kitchen and a plaque! Gather up everyone you know to be on your team. Participants can do either the 5k or 2-mile run or walk. Each team member signs up individually for their event and writes in team name when prompted on the registration form. Get your friends and/or co-workers together, come up with a unique team name, and come on out! Team members must cross the finish line at the race to count! Register under individual registration (not team registration) and add your team name in. You will see this prompt towards the end of the registration process.
FREE Kid's Fun Run:
The Kid's Fun Run is a free event for kids age 6 and under and starts at 8:40am. Kids will run approximately 200-400 meters with Tom the Turkey and will get an award and goodie bag! Sign-up for the Kid's Fun Run will be on race day. Parents may run with their child in this event if they wish.
Incentive Categories:
Our goal is to get as many people active as possible, so we will be offering several incentive categories again this year! Each participant in the following categories will get a prize: My 1st 5k, Wheelchair Division, Pregnant/Up to 1-yr Post-Partum, and Cancer Survivor. In addition, we will give an award to the first placed male and female in each category this year!
Jogging Stroller Division!
This event was a big hit last year! We are again offering an award for the winners (male and female) of both the 5k and 2-mile who run with a jogging stroller! Run with your baby/child and encourage a healthy lifestyle early on, plus push yourself with the added weight!
Miles for Michele!
This category is in honor of Michele Carathers, who passed away in 2012 from leukemia. An award will be given to the runner or walker, in either the 5k or 2-Mile, who raises the most money in donations! Sign up for the race and see how much you can raise! As a special incentive, anyone choosing this category and raising a minimum of $100 will receive a special tech t-shirt, along with free entry into the race!
Health Fair:
This year will again include a health fair from 7-11am geared towards runners. There will be booths throughout the registration area where you will be able to get information on many health topics such as injury prevention and nutrition, along with the opportunity to have your blood pressure, BMI, and body fat percentage screened.
Awards/Giveaways:
All preregistered runners and walkers will receive a long-sleeve T-shirt. No guarantee of shirts on race-day. Overall winners each event win a frozen turkey! 1st place OVERALL in Male/Female 5k, Male/Female 2-Mile Run, Male/Female 2-Mile Walk, and Walkers will receive a $25 gift certificate to Second Sole. 2nd place OVERALL in the above categories will receive a $15 gift certificate, and 3rd place OVERALL will receive a $10 gift certificate! Unique wooden awards created by Star Laser will be given to the top 3 overall in the categories of Walkers, male/female 5k, & male/female 2-mile run and the top 3 in each of the following 5k and 2-mile run age groups: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70& older. **One-hour massage gift certificates will also be awarded to the Overall Winners in Male/Female 5k, 2-Mile Run and Walkers, donated by Roger Werstler, LMT! Mayor's Award for oldest and youngest participant! Participants can also enjoy donuts and cider, post-race Subs, chocolate milk, chips, apples/bananas& more, and will be entered into drawings for a variety of giveaways. Each participant will also receive a large Goodie Bag.
