2013 Martindale Triathlon:
- The Martindale Triathlon is reputed to be the oldest triathlon in the State of Texas.
- It begins with a 7 mile run that starts on FM 1979 at the entrance to Spencers Canoe and Shady Grove Campground.
- Next is a 16.5 mile bike loop course starting at finishing at Spencers/Shady Grove.
- The 5.5 mile canoe/kayak paddle follows the cycling segment and is the final event.
- The paddle follows the beautiful San Marcos River from the town of Martindale to the bridge in Staples.
Course Information:
Run:
- The run starts by the San Marcos River in Martindale, Texas, crosses the river several times on its hilly, 7 mile course, then returns to the campground transition area.
Bike:
- The bike course is also hilly, looping 16 miles southwest of the campground.
Paddle:
- Canoeing is the last leg, 5.5 miles point to point on the San Marcos River down to Staples dam.
- The canoe leg is suitable for novices, with limited white water drops at the start and the last 2 miles on back up to the Staples dam, just downstream from the finish.
- In case of high water he course may be altered for safety.
Directions:
Directions to the strart and transition area
From I-35: Take exit #205 and go south on HWY 80S for seven miles. Go through a flashing yellow light. 1/4 mile past the flashing light, turn right on FM1979 and proceed for about 1 mile. Cross the river and we are immediately on the left.
From I-10: Take the HWY183/Luling exit and go right on 183N into Luling. Turn right at first light. Go two blocks and turn left at the next light onto HWY80N toward San Marcos. Travel 17 miles on 80N to FM1979 in Martindale. Turn left onto FM1979. Proceed for about a mile, cross the river, and we are immediately on the left.
