Runners will have the chance to enjoy mid-year holiday cheer and a Christmas themed atmosphere at the Christmas in July 6-hour, 12-hour, and 24-hour races. Runners will run the one-mile flat, crushed limestone path as many times as they can within the allotted time limit. The trail will meander around a lake and pass by the start and finish area every mile with no chance of getting lost. When it gets dark, the event will light up, both on and off the trail. We truly hope to bring you a unique ultra event that will be an experience of a lifetime. While we think this will be a fun event, we also expect it to be a competitive one. The course is a one-mile loop around the lake at the Old School Forest Preserve. The Old School Forest Preserve is part of the Lake County Forest Preserve District and is located off St. Mary's Rd, south of Route 176 and north of Route 60 (Townline Rd.)
Course Information:
USATF Certified Course. The trail, which is relatively flat with a few of gentle hills, is 100% crushed gravel/limestone that explores Old Schools woods and prairies and meanders around a lake back to the start and finish area every mile.
Directions:
The Christmas in July races will be held at the Old School Forest Preserve in central Lake County in Libertyville, Illinois just south of Route 176, east of St. Marys Road, north of Old School Road, and west of I-94. The races will be held on the one-mile looped trail around a lake at the northeast section of the park. To enter into the park, you will take the entrance off of St. Marys Road and follow the race signs.
There is plenty of parking available. There are three large parking lots near the start/finish line that you will be able to park in. When entering the Old School Forest Preserve from St. Mary's Road, just follow the Christmas in July signs to navigate you to where you need to be. The primary parking lot closest to the start/finish line is located adjacent to picnic shelter D. There are approximately 200 spots. If that parking is full, you may use one of the two parking lots a bit south of the shelter just a short distance farther away (Keep in mind that you will need to circle the park again as it's only a one-way road). A map of parking will be made available.
