Master of the Mountains Adventure Relay challenges bad-asses across the country to come and prove they truly are the MASTER of the Mountains.  Run through the rugged terrain of Sugarite Canyon State Park in Northeastern New Mexico, paddle a course on Lake Maloya at 7,500 feet, bike through the high plains along the Santa Fe Trail, and prove your prowess on a tactical shotgun shooting course at a remote location of the National Rifle Association Whittington Center.  Top it all of with an awards banquet New Mexican style:  green chile, beer, and music on Historic 1st Street.
The event is a 4 component race comprised of a hiking/trail running component, a paddling component, a biking component and a shooting component.  There is a short course available without the shooting component (see below).  The race will take place Saturday, September 14, 2013.  Race will begin at 8am at the South Boat Ramp (close to the spillway) of Lake Maloya, Sugarite Canyon State Park.

Course Information:

Participants will begin the event by starting at the south boat ramp of Lake Maloya in Sugarite Canyon State Park and hike around Horseshoe Mesa returning to the boat ramp where they will then transition to their kayak/canoe.  They will then paddle a course on the Lake Maloya returning to the south boat ramp.  Once at the boat ramp they will transition to their bike where they will then bike from the boat ramp through the State Park and the City of Raton to the Whittington Center (Mountain Rendezvous site, NM State Highway 555 entrance) where they will transition to the Shotgun Shooting component of the event.
