The Annapolis Triathlon Club is excited to announce we are partnering with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) to host a triathlon at SERC - Tri for the Environment on 30 June 2013. The swim and run legs will be conducted within the SERC preserve and the bike route is anticipated to go down Muddy Creek Road, Galesville Road and finish at the SERC facilities. The planned distances will be a 1/2 mile swim in the Rhode River, 15 mile bike and 3.1 mile trail run

The ATC is proud to work with SERC to highlight its mission to lead the nation in research on linkages of land and water ecosystems in the coastal zone and provide society with knowledge to meet critical environmental challenges in the 21st century. Participants will experience the Chesapeake Bay ecosystems firsthand through competition on SERCs unique and pristine property. The event will provide an opportunity for the ATC to organize an event targeted for local triathletes, at a local venue and to benefit local charity organizations.

"Tri for the Environment" is scheduled for Sun., June 30, 2013. To preserve the integrity of the venue, the number of participants will be limited. Additional details and registration will be available for individuals and teams on the ATC website at starting Wednesday 27 February.  Approximately 100 volunteers will be needed to ensure a smooth and safe event.

SERC ecologists are committed to uncovering the mysteries of Chesapeake Bay and other coastlines around the globe and the 2,650-acre wooded campus acts as an outdoor museum. For more information about SERC, visit  for more details and directions
