Life Time Tri is proud to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Soma
Triathlon. This is one of Life Time Tri's marquee events and we plan on
making it yours, too! Come out and race in the same location as Ironman
AZ. Swim in the same lake, ride most of the same bike course, and finish
in the famed Tempe Beach Park. Life Time Tri Soma is the perfect
tune-up for Ironman or just a great way to get out and compete in a
half-ironman distance event in a phenomenal setting. Race this one and
you will get a custom visor, a tech tee and one heck of a good time!
All participants start at Tempe Beach Park, on the south bank, just west of the Mill Avenue Bridge.
The swim takes place in a manmade lake that is very calm unless
there are high winds (i.e. storm force). The swim course will be a
rectangle for all athletes. Water temperatures will be approximately in
the mid 70s. (Note: 78 degrees considered wetsuit legal by USAT).
The bike portion is a relatively flat, urban, looped course; each loop is approximately 18.5 miles.
The run is a 6.5 mile loop around Tempe Town Lake with some great
views of ASU and the developing landscape of Tempe. All athletes must
complete 3 loops of the bike and 2 loops of the run course.
Historically, the weather on race day has seen temperatures in the
high 80s, with lows in the mid 60s. It's a dry heat! The race starts
cool and heats up while you do.
Limited parking is available for athletes in the U.S. Airways parking
garage on Saturday. Parking on Sunday in the U.S. Airways building
is FREE! Once the garage is full you will need to park on city streets
or at other parking lots near Rio Salado and Mill Avenue.
