This event is based at the Campus Center located at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. The Campus Center houses both the swimming pool and the gymnasium that will be used for Transition.
This is a REVERSE triathlon and will begin with a 3.1 mile run. The run course was slightly altered for 2012 to a true 3.1 mile distance. It is a loop that starts outside the Campus Center and travels off campus, turning left on Rt. 9, then left on Bridge St, left on Old Pool Rd and back to the Campus Center to the INDOOR TRANSITION. The 11 mile bike loop travels off campus via Hills Beach Rd, turning left on RT. 9, then right on Oak Ridge Rd, right on Guinea Rd, right on Meeting House Rd, right on Rt. 9, left on Hills Beach Rd and back to the INDOOR TRANSITION. The 150 yard snake swim is then completed in the indoor swimming pool.
Run: The run course has a few small hills in the first mile as the course exits the campus. After these hills, it is mostly flat. While running on Rt 9. the runners will be directed to run on the paved shoulder, facing traffic. Transition is inside the gymnasium.
Bike: The mount line is about 150 yards outside the gym. The bike course is a fast course. Along Rt. 9, cyclists will be directed to ride on the paved right shoulder. The vast majority of the pavement is new and/or smooth. The dismount line is about 100 yards outside the gym. "Bike In" is the same door as "Run In" , on the opposite diagonal corner of the building.
Swim: The 150 yard swim is a snake swim. Swimmers will enter the pool in Lane 1. They will swim down in 1, back in 2, down in 3, back in 4, down in 5, back in 6 and then exit the pool. There will be No Passing zones as athletes approach the pool and on the pool deck.
