2013 Rodney T. Miller Lakeside Triathlon:

  • Rodney T. Miller Lakeside Triathlon was established to honor the memory of Rodney T. Miller.
  • All proceeds will go towards the Rodney T. Miller Memorial fund which was designed to enhance and aid Decatur/Macon County area children in sports-related programs or activities.
  • Awards will enable recipients to buy equipment, upgrade facilities, attend special camps or trainings, sign up for extracurricular sports activities and pursue sports-related interests that might otherwise be out of reach.

    INTERMEDIATE COURSE

    .75 mile swim / 19 mile bike / 4.5 mile run
    7:30 A.M. start time

    • Early Bird Rate: $70 / After June 15: $80

    SWIM COURSE DESCRIPTION
    .75 mile course enters the water at the beach, moves around two markers in the water (keep buoys on right), and exits water on the boat docks to the west of the beach. Run up the green carpet to the "Swim In" entrance to transition area.

    BIKE COURSE DESCRIPTION
    The 19-mile bike route is an out and back course. It starts and finishes on rolling, twisting roads that are mostly closed to traffic with police and/or traffic volunteers at every intersection.

    An ANSI approved helmet must be worn, and bike number and helmet number provided by at registration must be visible.

    Once the participant has exited the transition area at the BIKE OUT exit, and mounted bike at the mount line, they will ride through the chute in the parking lot, then up a hill to Lakeshore Drive, turning to the east (right turn). The route follows Lakeshore Drive to the east and onto William Street. The course heads east (right turn) on William Street at the intersection of Brush College Road and follows Rt. 105 to turn-around.

    Participants will turn around at a cone on Rt. 105 and return back in on Rt. 105. Participants will follow signage and volunteer instructions to turn left (south) at Paul's Puttin Place miniature golf course and ride down hill to DISMOUNT LINE immediately before the Transition Area. Participants will run or walk bike into transition area through the BIKE IN entrance.

    • ABSOLUTELY NO RIDING WITHIN THE TRANSITION AREA. Bikes must be walked or run through this area.
    • Part of the bike course may be open to traffic. Please stay to your right on the roadways. Volunteers and police officers will be monitoring the course.
    • Drafting on the bike course is not allowed. Race officials will be monitoring the course. Bikes must be placed back on racks before beginning the run segment.

    RUN COURSE DESCRIPTION
    4.5 mile course begins in transition area exit marked RUN OUT. Participant will turn RIGHT, running southwest along lake on closed road and follows course marking and volunteers directions until the turnaround cone. Course continues back toward the TA, through a run out chute past the spectator village, and along the concrete path boardwalk, keeping to the left on the boardwalk, past the swim entrance, joining Lakeshore Drive at the Dockside Cafe. The run follows Lakeshore Drive until a turnaround at cone near the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Hardy (just north of East Prairie Street).

    Run course returns on same course past the Dockside Cafe, the swim entrance, concrete path, through the run chute along the spectator village, and through the finish line chute. Bib number must be worn during the run, number facing forward at all times.


    SHORT COURSE
    (ages 15+):400 yard swim / 19 mile bike / 3.1 mile run

    SWIM COURSE DESCRIPTION
    400 yard course enters the water at the beach angling to the right just beyond the ends of the boat docks and around the pier keeping boats & markers to the left, a gradual right turn at the end of the pier then exits water on the boat docks to the west of the beach. Run up the green carpet to the "Swim In" entrance to transition area.

    RUN COURSE DESCRIPTION
    3.3 mile course begins in transition area exit marked RUN OUT. Athletes will turn LEFT, running EAST through the chute and past the spectator village and follows course marking and volunteers directions until the turnaround cone. Course continues back toward the TA, through a run out chute past the spectator village, and along the concrete path boardwalk, keeping to the left on the boardwalk, past the swim entrance, joining Lakeshore Drive at the Dockside Cafe. The run follows Lakeshore Drive until a turnaround at cone near the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Hardy (just north of East Prairie Street). Run course returns on same course past the Dockside Cafe, the swim entrance, concrete path, through the run chute along the spectator village, and through the finish line chute.

    DIRECTIONS FROM NORTH, WEST OR EAST: 

    • Take Interstate 72 to Exit I44 (IL-48)
    • Exit on IL-48 Southbound
    • IL-48 becomes 22nd Street within the Decatur city limits
    • Take 22nd Street (IL-48) South approximately 6 Miles
    • Turn Left into Nelson Park at Cantrell

    DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH: 

    • Proceed North on US-51 to Decatur
    • Exit US-51 on Lake Shore Drive Eastbound (IL-105)
    • After crossing Lake Decatur Veteran's Bridge, follow Lake Shore Drive East for approximately 3 miles.
