The Buck Hurley Triathlon Challenge will be held in Salisbury, North Carolina on May 5th, 2013 at 7:45 a.m. Sunday morning, starting and ending at the J.F. Hurley YMCA. This is the 4th year for this race and we will have computer chip timing again. On race day there will be 4 different distances designed to appeal to youth, novice triathletes, those interested in participating on a relay team, and competitive triathletes. The first event will be a Sprint triathlon that will include a 300 yard swim, 10 mile bike, and a 5K run. The target audience for this event will range all the way from the novice adult and young adult triathlete to the experienced, competitive triathlete.
We will have 3 Kids triathlons. 9-11 year olds; This event will be timed by Salisbury Rowan Runners. It includes a 100 yard swim, 2 mile bike and a one mile run. Parents NOT allowed to assist. 7-8 year olds; This event this WILL be timed this year. It includes a 50 yard swim, 1 mile bike, and a half mile run. Parents NOT allowed to assist inside transition area. I mile Bike is on road. 4-6 year olds; This event is not timed. It includes a 25 yard swim, half a mile bike, and a sixth of a mile run. Parents ARE allowed to assist.
Please note that for 2013 your swim time HAS to be in by Wed May 1st by 11:59PM for you to be placed accordingly to your time. All entries after 5/1/2013 will be seeded at the end.
We will be appealing to each level of fitness which is a great representation of the sport.
All proceeds from this race will support the YMCAs families in need. Regardless of a familys or individuals ability to afford a membership and services the YMCA provides such as swimming lessons, afterschool care and youth sports nobody will be turned away due to the inability to pay. Our Invest in Youth program will help fund these children and their families. It is the intent of the J.F. Hurley YMCA to promote health and fitness in the community and provide Salisbury with a well-run, exciting event.
