This event will hopefully be the first in an annual trail run that will take place amid the other Homecoming ("Founders Day") events at Jarvis Christian College.
Everyone is invited and encouraged to run or walk. Most of the 5k race will be run on the heavily-wooded nature trail in the back of the Jarvis campus.
This unique trail provides a two-mile loop through the wonderful forest on the Jarvis campus, which intersects with other trails and access roads in the area.
Although Jarvis is a private school, the Nature Trail was built with federal funds and open to the public year round. The 5K race and 1-mile run/walk are sponsered by the Criminal Justice program at Jarvis. Contact Professor Roger Roots at 903-730-4890 or cell number 406-224-1135 with any questions.
Please arrive early to navigate through the parking and security gate.
The 5K course will begin on the grass behind the gym near the back of the Jarvis campus and will then enter the Goodwin Nature Trail.
It will wind through the heavily wooded area and eventually end back on the Jarvis campus lawn.
A 1 mile run/walk, utilizing another route, will also begin and end at the back lawn.
Jarvis Christian College is 1 mile east of the town of Hawkins on Highway 80. From Tyler, take Farm Road 14 northward approximately 14 miles until reaching Hawkins, then turn right.
The large campus of Jarvis Christian College is on the left side of Highway 80 and you can't miss it. Jarvis has a large security checkpoint at the front gate that is staffed by friendly greeters.
They will assist you in pointing you toward the run and registration.
