14.5 mile mountain bike ride along the McDade Trail

• The Pocono Challenge 2013 will begin at Smithfield Beach. Teams and individuals will have a staggered start for the first leg which will be a 14.5 mile mountain bike ride along the beautiful McDade trail. At the Eshback Trailhead each team must have their passport stamped by a race official before turning around and leaving their bikes in a secure corral at the Bushkill Launch Trailhead.
At Bushkill teams and individuals will board canoes and kayaks for a 10 mile paddle down the Delaware River. Along the way competitors will see everything from historic sites to bald eagles which frequent the river areas. Prior to finishing the river leg, teams must offload at least one competitor at Poxono Island where another checkpoint is located.
Back at Smithfield Beach teams and individuals will disembark their vessels and begin a 1.5 mile jog / trek to the Hialeah Trailhead where they will have receive their final stamp and return to Smithfield Beach for a total of 3 miles on foot.• • •

From Interstate 80 westbound from New York City and New Jersey
Take PA Exit 310. Stay to the far right at the toll booth. Follow signs to Route 611 South down the circular ramp. At the traffic light at the end of the ramp, continue straight across the intersection onto River Road. From this point it is 2.5 miles to the village of Shawnee-on-Delaware PA. Stay to the right in Shawnee and continue 3.2 miles farther on River Road to Smithfield Beach on the right.
From Interstate 80 eastbound from Harrisburg and Route 476 (PA Turnpike Extension)
Take PA Exit 310. At the traffic light at the end of the ramp, turn left onto River Road. From this point it is 2.5 miles to the village of Shawnee-on-Delaware PA. Stay to the right in Shawnee and continue 3.2 miles farther on River Road to Smithfield Beach on the right.
From Route 209 in Pennsylvania:
Turn east (left if southbound) onto River Road at the traffic light at Fernwood Resort in Bushkill PA. In 1.5 miles you will pass Park Headquarters, where (Monday to Friday) you can stop for a map and information. Continue 3.5 miles past Headquarters on River Road to Smithfield Beach on the left. Signal your turn, and turn with caution.
