PRE-RACE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUNDAY
June 30, 2002;
7:30 AM START
AM ARRIVAL: For those athletes that did not check in on Saturday,
you must proceed to the registration desk. Look for signs indicating which wave
you have been assigned to. Waves will
be based age groupings. We expect to
have three or four waves approximately 2 minutes apart.
SWIM: A clockwise course in the Batterson
Pond. The course will be well marked
with 6-8 buoys. The average water
temperature is approximately 67 degrees F and wetsuits are allowed/encouraged. When swimming, keep all buoys to your right
except for the final buoy near the shore which must be kept to your left. All swimmers must wear the correct color
swim caps issued at registration. Never
panic, aid will always be close at hand.
If you are in trouble, wave your hand and the nearest lifeguard will
provide assistance. Please call out
your number to the timer located on the way to the transition area to ensure
accurate results.
BIKE: There will be no mandatory bike
inspection. Anyone interested in having
their bike inspected is welcome to stop by Bloomfield Bicycle prior to the race
for a free inspection. ANSI or SNELL
approved helmets are mandatory and must be fastened before mounting your bike
and remain fastened until the rider has dismounted. Any violation of this rule will result in an automatic 5-minute
penalty. The bike course is a
three-loop course with rolling hills.
Absolutely NO DRAFTING!!
Violators are subject to disqualification. Officials on motorcycles will be roaming the course and penalties
will be assessed. No crossing the
centerline of the road! Note: No road will be completely closed to
traffic! Always keep right and watch
for cars emerging from driveways!
Please use caution and be considerate of your fellow competitors. You must obey the instructions of both the
police department and course monitors who will be out at all key intersections
to ensure your safety.
You will be required to dismount your bike prior to
entering the transition area.
Absolutely NO RIDING IN THE TRANSITION AREA! Be careful and remember SAFETY FIRST!
RUN: Remember you must wear your number on the front of your body --
not on your hips or back! Water will be
available at the beginning, halfway and finish. Make sure you consume plenty of water, as in past years we have
had very humid weather. Upon returning
back to the camp you will be instructed to continue down to the open field
along the access road in order to reach the finish line. The medical center will be located at
Batterson Park.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR RELAY
TEAMS: All relay teams will be
located in a certain area of the transition area. Team members must wait for their teammates by their assigned bike
racks. Upon completion of the first
run, the runner must tag the biker before the biker can remove his/her bike
from the bike rack and begin the bike segment.
Upon completion of the bike segment, the biker MUST rack his/her bike
first, then tag their teammate before they can begin the second run. A marshall will be assigned to insure that
all tags are properly made. Any
violations will result in disqualification!
Make sure you follow the rules!
A relay team may have two or three members. If there are two runners, you must transfer the runners number to
the second runner during the bike segment.
SPECIAL NOTE: It is your ultimate responsibility to know the
bike and run courses and to follow all posted race signage. The volunteer is there to assist you, but
YOU are RESPONSIBLE for YOUR ACTIONS and for knowing the race course! NO EXCEPTIONS! In addition, unsportsmanlike conduct WILL NOT be tolerated and
any instances of such conduct will result in disqualification.
