Description

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Triathlete and psychotherapist, Nancy Reinisch became a statistic at fifty-three when a lump in her breast was diagnosed as invasive breast cancer. Chemosabee is the story of her writings, photos, and special words of wisdom from friends and family, as she candidly shares her battle to maintain her health, fitness, and sanity throughout her treatments. Reinisch uses her psychotherapy skills and coaching tips to work through the physical and emotional roadblocks that surfaced during her year of chemotherapy, surgery, bilateral mastectomies, reconstructive surgery, and BRCA 2 diagnosis. The book is for your mother, sister, daughter, wife, or friend who has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Reinisch's style is both inspirational and informational. She doesn't preach how to get through cancer, she simply describes in a humorous and straightforward manner what worked for her during her journey. In addition, Reinisch includes a personal photo gallery of surgical images not generally found in cancer help books. She included these photos to help women make the difficult decisions that are necessary during breast cancer diagnosis.

Customer reviews for 'Chemosabee: A Triathlete's Journey Through the First Year of Breast Cancer'

«Chemosabee»

I bought this book for a friend going through breast cancer, chemo, surgeries and all the rest of the garbage associated with breast cancer. I bought it on the recommendation of another friend with chronic leukemia who said, "when you first find out you want to know all that you can know about your condition". She was right. The book was much appreciated by friend, its frankness and the authors vulnerabilit and transparency helped meet her needs as she faced/faces her own journey. I'm glad I gave it.

«Just what I was looking for»

I am a triathlete and cancer survivor. During my journey I was searching for other triathletes with breast cancer. So many decisions to make and all the time wanting to return to the sport. This book offered a very honest description of Nancy's journey. The photos and descriptions of surgeries and reconstruction were very helpful. Anyone that trains for any sport and has been diagnosed with breast cancer needs this book. You will not find this information anywhere else.

«A wonderful book»

This is a wonderful book. The author walks the reader through her experience with courage, humor and honesty that is inspiring. The book helps to de-mystify and educate about many aspects of cancer treatment and about coping along the way.
