My love for sports and competition started in junior high school and has not slowed down at all for several decades.  Before the sport of triathlon had stared to become established, I competed in a canoe version at the age of 14 in 1980.  My love for endurance sports started in junior high where I was the lone female distance runner among a boys track team.   In high school, I ran cross country and track. Fortunately girls track and cross country programs had become established in high schools and I could enjoy running with girls. Also while in high school the sport of BMX had taken off so I had to give it a try.   I feel in love with racing this fun little dirt bike around Ohio.  I was the state BMX champion (1982) and placed in a few national events.   At Ohio Wesleyan University, I competed in cross country, indoor and outdoor track.  While competing for OWU, I earned All-American honors in the high jump.  (1984, 1985) During the summer of 1984 I tried a few local triathlons that were sponsored by the Bud Light Triathlon series and loved the triple sport challenge.  I was hooked!   I then transferred to Ohio State University and became much more interested in pursuing my interests as a triathlete.   If I was going to be competitive I knew I needed to work on my swimming.   I joined the varsity swim team as a Walk-On athlete and fell in love with the intense training regimen. This focused training would help shape me to become a professional triathlete. From the mid 80s to the early 90s, I raced as a professional triathlete mainly in the Midwest region.  I raced in distances ranging from the Sprint Nationals to the Hawaii Ironman during this time.   While living in Ohio, I also raced mountain bikes mostly in the West Virginia area and around the Ohio Valley.  We moved to Colorado in 1999 and I continued to race mountain bikes around the Rocky Mountain region and run trail races such as the Pikes Peak Ascent.  With the many interesting races the Colorado race calendar offers, I could not help but to see the number of Xterra triathlons in the area.  In 2009 I returned to my roots as a multiport athlete and started racing Xterra triathlons.  This off road version of triathlon did not exist in the mid 80s and I quickly found I liked the off road variety far better than the road version.  I have been focusing on the off road triathlons since then.
