Memberships: $40 for 3 months, $60 for 6 months, $99 for 1 year
Our mission is to provide safe swimming opportunities to beginners and triathletes of all levels that don’t want to swim in open water alone.
We offer 3 kinds of Swims/Events:
1. Swims during already-scheduled Open Water Courses for Triathletes (Clinics). Members can tag along and swim with Ingrid and the clinic participants during the final 30 minutes of every clinic (10-12/year).
2. Swims hosted by FSC members.
3. Swims hosted by the FSC founder, Ingrid Loos Miller (quarterly).
• You recognize that to race in open water, you need to train in open water. • You want the security of training in a group setting and the fun of training with others. • You want to improve your swimming confidence and open water skills. • You want to supplement your pool based workouts and explore new open water venues. • You want to stay connected with the other nice people you met at a Fearless Swimming Clinic.
How does the club work?
There are no meetings, no volunteering, no obligations other than RSVP'ing the swim host if you plan to attend. When you join you will be added to the Fearless Swimming Group on Google so you can be in contact with other club members. Through this group you will be notified about upcoming swims. Other than the club membership fee, there is no charge for club swims unless you want a lifeguard present (see below).
What swims are currently scheduled?
Clinic Swims: April 23 Bonelli Park, San Dimas . May 7 Newport Dunes, Newport Beach. June 4 Santa Fe Dam, Baldwin Park (tentative). June 25 Ventura Harbor, Ventura (tentative). August 14 Newport Dunes, Newport Beach. September 17 Bonelli Park, San Dimas. October 1 Lake Castaic, Santa Clarita (tentative). October 16 Newport Dunes, Newport Beach 9AM-Noon. Founder hosted: July 2 Laguna Beach, August 6 Dana Point/Laguna Beach.
Why swim at Clinics?
Some of the clinic venues are not open to the public on the clinic dates/don't allow swims outside the designated swimming area. Members will be allowed to swim to designated buoys with lifeguards nearby and are also protected by general liability and sport accident Insurance.
Will lifeguards be present?
Lifeguard(s) will be present at all Clinic swims. Members who host swims are encouraged to have swims in lifeguarded areas when lifeguards are on duty but it is not mandatory. FSC members are solely responsible for their own safety during swims. Hosts are encouraged to provide a lifeguard and should contact Ingrid to make those arrangements. Guarded swims will require each participant to pay a share of the lifeguard’s fee which will be along the lines of $5 per member.
Tell me more about member hosted swims:
Club members are encouraged to host club swims too. So for instance if ”Rob” wants to host a swim around the Balboa Pier, he can put the word out through the Google Group and invite others to join him. Swimmers must RSVP if they plan to attend a swim. If a host doesn’t receive any RSVP’s he can cancel the swim at his sole option without notice.
What about discounts and other perks?
• 10% Discount on all Fearless Swimming Workshops video analysis, freestyle technique tune-ups, etc. • 10% discount at OneTri.com • Club clothing will available for purchase
Who is the founder of the club?
The founder of the club is the owner of Fearless Swimming, Ingrid Loos Miller. Ingrid is a USAT Level 1 coach and a former ocean lifeguard. She is a member of the United States Lifesaving Association and author of several Ironman Series books including Fearless Swimming for Triathletes.

What are the membership requirements?
Members must be able to swim competently in open water. Completion of the Fearless Swimming Open Water Course for triathletes is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED and the club founder has discretion to REQUIRE completion of the course or demonstration of sufficient open water swimming skills as a condition of membership for safety reasons.
Will there be any coaching?
Most of the Founder-hosted swims include optional mini-clinics too. These are optional, group-based teaching sessions designed to give members a few pointers for a nominal fee. The mini-clinics are available only to members and are not as comprehensive as a full clinic, workshop or personal coaching session.
